I was very excited when I saw the book announcement and preordered it. Now that it has arrived, I am feeling kinda..meh about it. The first third or so of the book on the cottage garden and the perennial garden are interesting, but most of what follows is a very basic discussion of container gardening. I think this book is great for folks who are getting into gardening and want to put up lots of containers, but I had hoped more of a conceptual discussion of combining cottage gardens with perennial gardens.I feel a bit like the grumpy grinch seeing all the happy reviewers, but I also wish the book would have been a bit bigger in format. Pictures are small and details can be difficult to discern. I also wasn't too happy with the emphasis on grasses. I know, they are "modern" and what's "in" right now when it comes to gardening, but I wish there would have been a bigger emphasis on planting a pollinator-friendly garden, which seems to be closer to the philosophy of a cottage and perennial gardens.If you are a novice, like container gardens, and/or grasses, this book is for you. Unfortunately, for me, not what I had expected and was looking for.
